We, the members of the GW Asian American Journalists Association, seek to increase Asian American and Pacific Islander perspectives and representation in media, newsrooms and stories by empowering aspiring journalists on GW’s campus. We will do so by subscribing to the regulations and policies of the George Washington University and establishing this Constitution to govern the matters within our organization. AAJA-GW aims to: Provide encouragement, information and advice to AAPI students who aspire to professional journalism careers Provide a means of association and support among Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) journalists, and to advance AAPI journalists as news managers and media executives Provide to the AAPI community an awareness of news media and an understanding of how to gain fair access Research and point out when news media organizations stray from accuracy and fairness in the coverage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and AAPI issues. Be an exemplary group of students that honors journalism excellence and outstanding achievement Increase the number of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders students as well as faculty and leaders apart of GW’s academic journalism program within its School of Media and Public Affairs Regularly report to AAJA’s DC Chapter AAJA-GW’s plans to hold events throughout the academic year open to members and nonmembers to facilitate community building with the AAJA DC chapter and national organization.
