BC for Effective Altruism
Boston College
BC for Effective Altruism is a student-led organization that promotes education and awareness of effective altruism, a growing philosophical and social movement that uses reason and evidence to answer the question, “how can we best help others?” While extreme poverty is a main focus, effective altruism’s overall mission is to figure out how to benefit others as much as possible. Several other problems BC for Effective Altruism will discuss include global climate change, animal rights, malnutrition, mental health, and other human rights issues. However, our primary focus is to address the effects and causes of poverty at the individual and systemic level, within the context of Boston and the world at large. Additionally, BC for Effective Altruism will be organized into two sectors: student ambassadors and mentor/mentee career development pairs.
