¡CHANGÓ! Howard University's Afro-Latine Student Association & Spanish Speaking Society's purpose is to embrace and raise awareness of Afro-Latine culture within the African diaspora with Howard University students and global communities.   Changó is one of the many orishas in Santería originating from the Yoruba religion. He is the orisha of dancing, drumming, and leadership, among other things. Changó is representative of Afro-Latin religion, which is a big part of Afro-Latine culture. There is a need for the establishment of an organization such as Changó because the Afro-Latine population, culture, and Spanish language are not represented in any other Howard University organization. Many people are unaware of the existence of Afro-Latinidad and its place within the diaspora. The socially constructed barriers of language, culture, and skin color have made many people believe that we are different people when in reality Blackness is not a singularity.  We invite all to join our comunidad, regardless of ethnicity and Spanish-speaking level, to be immersed in the Afro-Latine experience!!!
