The Federalist Society fosters debate among students, academics, legal practitioners, and public policy experts at the law school level. Chapter activities include debates between faculty members, formal or informal discussions of practical or theoretical legal issues, publications, and academic research projects. The Society seeks to create a sense of community and to promote the exchange of ideas among conservatives and libertarians involved in the law. Toward this end, the Society sponsors several activities designed to bring together students from across the country. Among these are the annual National Student Symposium, when students gather for a weekend of outstanding legal discourse at a nationally recognized law school, and the annual Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., where student chapter presidents share their ideas on operating an effective student chapter. These activities help to forward the mission of the Society by developing an informal network among students and lawyers with shared values. Participation in our organization and its AUWCL events is open to all members of the AU community, regardless of background. Our events, programs, and activities are inclusive and do not restrict participation based on personal identity or characteristics, including but not limited to race, color, national origin (or shared ancestry), religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status.
