GlobeMed at GW is a student-led organization that strives to unite the GW and DC community in engaging with grassroots leaders to cultivate informed global health advocates, raise awareness on global health inequities, and learn through service with global-community partnerships. Our partner organization, Set Her Free, is a non-profit based in Kampala, Uganda, that works to improve the health of vulnerable young women and girls by equipping them with the skills and resources needed to live independent, self-determined lives free from exploitation. GlobeMed works with Set Her Free to support their 4 focus areas, which are: Education and Development, Protect and Empower, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Climate Change Adaptation. Specifically, GlobeMed supports Set Her Free through advocacy, fundraising events, and partnership in long-term projects. Throughout the year, GlobeMed at GW also raises awareness about a variety of other public health issues through on-campus events including our annual Gala and Hilltop Conference. These events have focused on several important public health topics including mental health, disaster management, sexual and reproductive health, and health equity. Every member of this chapter plays an important role in our organization and is able to pursue interests related to creative design, event planning, grant writing, and health promotion.
