The mission of the Graduate Black Student Union (GBSU) - open to all students - is to cultivate a strong community for graduate students who are the descendants of the African Diaspora, as well as students of all backgrounds, to support the mental health of its members, to encourage networking, and to foster the ideals and values of scholarship and service as outlined in AU’s Plan for Inclusive Excellence The purpose and goals of the GBSU are to promote multicultural professional, educational, community service, and networking opportunities for students of all backgrounds at American University. American University student organizations shall not discriminate in membership or benefits on the basis of any individual’s personal identity or characteristics, including but not limited to race, color, national origin (or shared ancestry), religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status.
