The mission of the Division of Safety and Security is to provide a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the university community. This mission is achieved through active participation of all university members and partnerships with local law enforcement and community partners.The George Washington Police Department (GWPD) provides residential hall security and patrol services to the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and oversees security at the VSTC campus. The Department also coordinates safety & security for a variety of on-campus special events, including Commencement, Colonial Weekend and visits by dignitaries. In addition to those roles and responsibilities, GWPD provides crime prevention education to the GW community.
