The Hakuna Matata Club at Howard University is a vibrant, student-led organization dedicated to the appreciation, promotion, and study of the Swahili language and African culture. It serves as a hub for students interested in learning Kiswahili, exploring the rich histories and traditions of East & Central Africa, and fostering cultural exchange and global awareness. Rooted in the linguistic and cultural traditions of countries in East Africa, Hakuna Matata provides a diverse space for all students to deepen their understanding of the Swahili language and the impact of African languages and cultures on a global scale. Hakuna Matata offers events such as chat hours, tutoring/ study sessions, informational events, experiential learning, movie nights, music and dance nights, and discussions on historical and contemporary issues and triumphs in East and Central Africa.
