The History Graduate Student Association seeing the necessity to provide for: professional guidance for those whose are challenged to serve as leaders of the 21st century’s global community; a reaffirmation of the national and international legacy of academic excellence in the Department of History a prominent role for the African American historian, past and present, in the Department of History’s classroom setting improved channels of political, economic, intellectual and social linkages between the students and the Department of History’s administration and graduate faculty; assistance in determining the future direction of the Department by encouraging broader graduate student involvement with the office of the President of the University, the office of the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate Student Council;
