Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. is a nationally incorporated fraternity built upon the enduring principles of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood. Since our founding on September 19, 1963, during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, Iota has stood as a beacon for Black men who are committed to intellectual excellence, social justice, and the upliftment of their communities. Our brotherhood is more than a bond; it is a lifelong commitment to serve, grow, and lead with purpose. We exist to fill a critical need: a focused, forward-thinking organization that develops men of vision and integrity who are prepared to meet the evolving challenges of our time. Through civic engagement, educational outreach, and leadership development, Iota Phi Theta continues to empower generations of young Black men to pursue excellence while never forgetting the communities and causes that matter most. Our motto, “It takes a man,” reflects our belief that true manhood is measured by action, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to progress.
