Kwame Ture Society is an organization that began in the Fall term of the 2000-2001 school year as an extension of the Afro-American Studies Department. The organizational mission calls for the emphasis of both the learning experiences and knowledge development available within the Afro-American Studies curriculum and related courses. During the twenty five year period since its inception, the ambition of the Kwame Ture Society has enlarged to include a Black Studies Student Conference, monthly Deep Study sessions, and Pan Africanism week. Our organization is guided by the example and namesake of Stokely Carmichael, later known as Kwame Ture, a former Howard student who experienced and initiated intellectual and political enlightenment through the use of study groups at Howard University. With the achievements of Kwame Ture in mind, our membership seeks to be informed about concerning issues relevant to the global African community.
