Founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, the mission of the National Council of Negro Women is to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities The National Council of Negro Women, Howard University Section is a section of the National Council of Negro Women Incorporated, which seeks to (1) harness the collective power of women of African descent, so that they may realize their full potential and (2) create a just society in which the quality of life is enhanced for all people. Our purpose is to empower and inspire women of African descent to be the leaders and forerunner in society that they were created to be. We accomplish this through innovative programs and community service projects, which emphasize the potential of the forthcoming generation, solidify the foundation of support for our fellow sisters and shine light on the issues that face the women on our campus and community.
