Operation Smile is a non-profit organization devoted to providing safe surgical care to patients with cleft lip and cleft palate conditions in developing countries. Student-led clubs around the world at the elementary, middle, high school, and university levels are actively involved in the organization by raising awareness, building leadership skills, and connecting with the patients who receive these life-changing surgeries. With leadership conferences hosted every year and specifically over winter break for university students, the Operation Smile family comes together to set new goals and involve selected students on medical missions around the world. In this way, the students can see the difference a smile makes in a patient’s life first hand. Students involved in the club will not only develop their leadership skills, but they will gain a new perspective on a less-familiar condition, and the effects it has on people around the world. Mission at Boston College: Operation Smile Boston College, a student extension of the parent organization, Operation Smile, works to spread positivity and raise awareness on campus through Operation Smile Student Programs’ pillars of education, advocacy, and action. We carry out these pillars at Boston College by fostering an inclusive community of friendship, service and care while helping to raise money for surgeries. Vision at Boston College: Operation Smile Boston College aims to create a community on campus centered around awareness of cleft conditions and service to patients worldwide.
