Mission The Department of Public Safety has the primary responsibility for providing a safe and secure campus environment that is conducive to learning, working, living and visiting at The Catholic University of America. The department provides comprehensive programs which includes security patrol, escort, and a customer service center. A staff of trained professionals, including commissioned special police officers, focuses on crime prevention and investigation; safety education; and emergency preparedness, response and recovery. The department works closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies to coordinate services and activities to enhance safety within the boundaries of the University. The department seeks opportunities to partner with students, staff and faculty to achieve the goal of a safe and secure campus. Items received by the department are held for a period of 90 days. Afterwards, unclaimed items are sold at a public auction. Locksmiths For your convenience, when requesting keys from the Locksmith, the link for the Lock/Key Requisition form is Key Request Form (Remember, all forms must be authorized by your Department Head) Escort Service Escorts are provided by public safety officers for all members of the campus community and may be performed by one of several different methods such as by foot patrol, vehicle patrol or by members of the bicycle patrol. Public Safety Assistants The Public Safety Assistants (PSA) program is a part of the Department of Public Safety. PSAs are not security officers or special police officers, and therefore are not expected to enforce or attempt to enforce any laws or make apprehension of suspects who violate the law. PSAs are placed at designated areas throughout campus to include, the Raymond A. DuFour Center and the Customer Service Center, Department of Public Safety. Public Safety Assistants are stationed at the entrances of each location to offer a sense of safety to students, faculty and staff members. They support DPS officers by being additional eyes and ears for the Department of Public Safety and act as a source of information and goodwill.
