OUR PURPOSE: Guided by the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross and its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the Red Cross Howard University Chapter (RCHC) will learn, practice and exemplify humanitarian values through mission-related service projects. The RCHC is dedicated to our 3 initiatives:  Our Heritage, Our Hemoglobin Our Sickle Cell Disease initiative is dedicated to raising awareness about the blood disorder, providing blood directly to sickle cell patients through our blood drives, and raising funds for the research efforts focusing on sickle cell. Our Voices, Our Impact: Black Volunteers Amplified This initiative serves to register more Black Red Cross volunteers in DC, help with the creation of Red Cross Clubs at local high schools and other HBCU's, and to increase the overall volunteer efforts of Black people within their community. Since our first semester (Fall 2023) the Howard University Chapter has become a hub for Black Red Cross members with nearly 300 new volunteers.  CARE+ Initiative: Trainings, Career & Personal Development Our members are eligible to receive free CPR training as a direct result of them volunteering. We also aim to connect our members with different professionals/graduate students from their targeted career interests to further their professional and personal development.
