Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Mission of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is to encourage, nurture and support the art of music. Its founders included seven gifted musicians: Mary Storrs Andersen, Elizabeth Campbell, Frances Caspari, Nora Crane Hunt, Leila Farlin Laughlin, Georgina Potts, and Minnie Davis Sherrill. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life! The Delta Nu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was founded on January 10, 1965 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC. We are the first chapter to be chartered at an HBCU. Our charter members were inclusive of 33 women students and 4 faculty members, totaling 37 charter members. For over 50 years the Delta Nu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota has produced some of the best musicians not only at Howard University, but in the nation.
