Society of Women Engineers
Long Beach City College
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) chapter at Long Beach City College is dedicated to building a supportive and inclusive community for students pursuing careers in STEM. As the first SWE chapter at the college, it focuses on providing mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities to help members grow both academically and professionally. The chapter hosts workshops covering topics like resume building, interview preparation, and technical skill development. Guest speakers, including engineers, industry professionals, and educators, are regularly invited to share their experiences and insights. Networking events offer members opportunities to connect with STEM professionals and explore potential career paths. Outreach is a core component of SWE’s mission. The chapter engages with local middle and high schools, encouraging young students to explore STEM through hands-on activities, mentorship programs, and informational sessions. These efforts aim to inspire the next generation of engineers and reduce the gender gap in STEM fields. SWE also fosters collaboration with universities, companies, and other student organizations to provide additional learning and career opportunities. By promoting leadership development and creating a strong support network, the chapter empowers women and marginalized groups to thrive in engineering and STEM careers. Through its initiatives, SWE at Long Beach City College continues to uplift and inspire future students in STEM. SWE meets regularly on Wednesdays from 1-2 PM in V-225 on the LAC campus.
