The Community Garden at American University promotes ecology learning independent from a classroom environment and provides an outlet for cultivating food and knowledge of how to care for the earth. Through this increased knowledge and personal connection, the Community Garden at American University promotes sustainable action from both members and the general student body. Through regular integration of key texts into our work days, we work to educate ourselves and our members on topics including agricultural justice, Indigenous stories, and ecological improvement. Coupled with weekly workdays and encouraged individual engagement, the Community Garden at American University creates an opportunity, open to all students, to grow fresh produce.
