Through fostering an environment for open dialogue on the realities within capital punishment, students will be able to learn the truths behind the death penalty in a. supportive environment. The GWDPA believes that action is sparked by education, and through our direct affiliation with the national organization, Death Penalty Action, members will have access to higher learning platforms. Said affiliation will provide members with resources such as speakers with first-hand perspectives, powerful execution petitions, educational resources, and exterior events such as execution vigils and protests by the Capitol Building. The GWDPA acknowledges that capital punishment has come to be known as controversial and heavily politicized. The organization does not and never will expect anyone to have one concrete opinion on the practice, and will serve to encourage open-minded conversations with varying ideologies. For, the organization believes that the best way to evolve one's own perspective is through listening to others. The GWDPA will participate in fundraising for off-campus event transportation and speaker transportation, but will allocate all other funds raised to the national Death Penalty Action. DPA uses their monetary funds primarily to help those navigating the death penalty, their families, pressuring state courts to restrict and repeal the punishment, and for bringing general visibility to executions in the US.
