The Pre-Law Honors Society aims to build a community of interested and prospective pre-law students, by networking with professionals in all areas of law, under different practices. Our mission is to show students the inner workings of the practice of law within government, public interest, and private practice. The Pre-Law Society is dedicated to fostering academic and professional excellence by providing students with opportunities to develop legal writing skills, connect with law schools and professional associations, and participate in events designed to encourage discussion and build practical, résumé-ready skills such as mock constitutional arguments, motion writing, and trial simulations. Our main focus is to help AU students who are interested in a pre-law track, not only network and gain membership from current attorneys, but also make sure students interested in law school have the proper resources to succeed in applications. This includes, but is not limited to, practicing for LSAT’s, internship opportunities, and volunteering across the D.C. community. The ultimate goal of the Pre-Law Society is to help pre-law students gain invaluable experience and knowledge ahead of their law career, and to ultimately give back to our community in return. The role of the executive board in the Pre-Law Society is to provide a firm hand to help guide students in the right direction. We aim to build strong connections and mentorship opportunities between students and law schools to guide members through the law school admissions process and help them prepare for the academic and professional journey ahead. We strive to deepen students’ understanding of the legal profession, enhance their prospects for law school admission, and support them in making informed decisions about whether to pursue law school and how to navigate the process successfully. The Pre-Law Society also aims to create a lasting relationship between the club and local law firms in the Metropolitan area. American University is fortunate to be in the center of the legal field. In the Pre-Law Society we want to use this resource, and create these relationships with local law firms, associations, law schools, judges, and attorneys, so that our members feel confident exiting law school and into the job market. The Pre-Law Society is open to all students.
