The University Chorale of Boston College is a mixed choir of approximately 110 members. It is the university's second-largest student organization and one of the BC community's most visible groups. The University Chorale provides a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in music to participate in a professional and visible performance group on campus. While we are entirely student-run, we sing under the direction of Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, a distinguished director and musician known worldwide for her talent. Our repertoire ranges from classical to modern pieces, including selections from film soundtracks, American folk songs, and at Christmastime, a selection of traditional carols. We participate in several performances throughout the year, including the annual Pops on the Heights concert during Parents' Weekend, our Fall Concert, a Christmas concert series in collaboration with the Boston College Symphony Orchestra, our Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and ArtsFest performance. Additionally, the University Chorale is the only organization on campus (besides service trips and athletics) that is permitted to travel internationally. We take advantage of this unique opportunity to go on a grand tour over Spring Break that is full of performances, sightseeing, and a great deal of fun! In 2024, we had the amazing opportunity of traveling to Spain and Portugal. For the coming year, we will be traveling to Sweden and Norway! The University Chorale is an incredibly friendly and social group as well. Events such as class dinners (designed to facilitate meeting other members of your class) and our End-of-the-Year Banquet, held off-campus in downtown Boston, among other social events build a strong diverse community of wonderful people with a common interest in singing. This year, we have many ideas and fun events planned to help new members get to know each other and to continue forming strong friendships among all.
