The Washington Union Society at GW is a debate society formatted in the British Parliamentary tradition. The Union strives to make public debate more accessible to the GW student body regardless of area of study. It provides a forum for students—together with leaders across various fields—to freely debate and examine the challenges facing our world. In addition to debates, The Washington Union Society teaches and promotes the art of rhetoric and oratory to its members. We teach debate not as a formula to earn points over a rival, but as a way to order thoughts and elevate ideas beautifully.
