Women and Youth Supporting Each Other (WYSE) is a national, curriculum-based mentorship program that provides women, females, and non-binary 6th-8th graders with the resources, information, and support necessary to make informed and empowered decisions about their relationships, sexuality, and futures. Once a week, we hold sessions at two local middle schools, Jefferson Middle School and Eliot Hine Middle School, which include various discussions, activities, games, and occasional field trips relating to each weekly topic. We use an up-to-date and program-specific curriculum to plan and build weekly sessions, tailored to the unique needs of our mentees. Our WYSE mission is to empower young women by providing the resources and support necessary to make positive life choices and create community change. WYSE envisions a world in which all women are empowered to determine their future and effect change. Time Commitment: Eliot Hine meets Wednesdays and Jefferson meets on Tuesdays for sessions. We ask mentors to block out 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM on one of these days to spend with mentees (this time frame includes travel time between schools). We also meet once a week (on Sundays) for reflections on our session.
