Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, is a historically Black Greek-Lettered Organization (BGLO), aimed at promoting the advancement of collegiate women. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, was founded on Friday, January 16th, 1920, at Howard University in Washington, DC. The organization began as an idea conceived by five coeds to address the societal mores, ills, prejudices, poverty, and health concerns of the day. Our Five Pearls, Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts, dared to depart from traditional coalitions for Black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. Over the years since the sorority’s inception, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, has chartered hundreds of chapters and initiated thousands of women around the world. Zeta has continued to thrive and flourish while adapting to the ever-changing needs of a new century. The Sophisticated Sigma Pi Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on Friday, October 14th, 1998, on the campus of American University in Washington, DC by five women. Since then, the chapter has expanded to Trinity Washington University, Georgetown University, and The Catholic University of America. The chapter strives for excellence through exceptional campus leadership, a strong academic record, and everlasting sisterhood. Our chapter members are strong and intelligent women who come from diverse backgrounds and incorporate Finer Womanhood into every aspect of their lives. Additionally, our goal is not only to serve our prospective school campuses and communities but to build long-lasting relationships around the world.
